Perhaps users should be able to accept their own answer, but that action not lead to an increase in their score. There are rare occasions where one finds the answer to one's own question after posting and this would also reduce the number of "unanswered" questions.
Forum: Should A User Be Able To Accept His/Her Own Answer?
I am wondering if users should be able to accept their own answer. I my particular case I implemented a solution to my problem but cannot accept it as an answer because BioStar is telling me that I cannot vote on my own answers. Is this work-as-designed or am I missing something?

This is by design, it is implemented this way so that users cannot easily and artificially boost their score by creating then up-voting/accepting their own answers.

This could be a good compromise. Answering your own post should remain an exception however, so not adding this to your reputation score seems to help ensure it stays an exception.
