Why Solexa Reads Are Short
Hi I want to know what is the limiting factor of the length of solexa reads and why in 454 it is possible to receive much longer reads?

I think this question is unrelated to bioinformatics; the reason for the read length has to do purely with the sequencing technologies.
It has to do with the different chemistry that each platform uses to detect bases. There are many good reviews of these processes just a google search or two away. With that said, I'm closing this as off-topic, because it's not a bioinformatics question.
