Is there a database that contains information about which chemicals are toxic to E. coli? We're doing a chemical genetics project and in this particular instance would like to leave out chemicals that would inhibit growth or greatly perturb the cellular state of E. Coli.
Basically, I will be parsing a lot of the sigma datasheets and we will be filtering chemicals by price, category, etc...

"Chemicals toxic to E.Coli" - if it would be that easy. "Toxic" can mean a lot of things and scientists in labs typically screen compounds ("chemicals") in assays against specific targets to determine whether and what they do with the targets. What you mean with "toxic" may be one of the effects and results observed.

Once in the system you could look for keywords like E.Coli or just "bacteria" or "antibacterial" etc. and then you can look at all the compounds/chemicals tested along with their data (use the "change display options" link).

Thanks! Yes, I guess what I meant by 'toxic' was at first approximation, growth inhibitory. Although I didn't find a lot of hits in CDD, I was able to find some interesting publications that I'll list below for anyone else interested.
