News: Co-editor and authors for bioinformatics books

Dear member,

I am editing book on Single-Cell RNA-Seq Technologies in international publishing house. I am looking for co-editor from my book who are expert in this field and have h-index above 15. Co-editor with h-index >15 is a pre-required from the publishing house. Interested person can contact me at mkgupta.bioinfo@gmail.com. We can discuss in detail there. People who are interested to contribute chapter in this book may also contact me with their possible chapter title.

I am also editing two other books on Bioinformatics and biotechnologies techniques. Researchers who are interested to contribute chapters in these book may also contact me. However, here chapter titles are fixed and it contain chapters from basic bioinformatics to advance biotechnologies techniques. Thus, interested authors may write to me with the area of their interest, so that we can discus for the possibilities. All published chapter will be available in PubMed.

Note: h-index of the corresponding author for the chapters in these three books need to above 7.

I have to say, the focus on having co-editor or chapter author with an h-index above a certain value comes off poorly. It also suggests the book / chapter is more concerned with questionable "academic metrics" regarding the author/editor, rather than the author or editor's technical expertise or knowledge of the area. I'd encourage you to reconsider your "requirements".

Thanks @rob and @Dlakic for your detail insight. After considering you valuable suggestion, I have re-defined my requirement.

Agree with Rob's comment, and will add another point for your consideration: an h-index of 15 may be so restrictive that you will get few or no submissions.

The meaning of h-index is a number of papers with at least the same number of citations. For the cutoff you chose, that means having published 15 papers with at least 15 citations each, which eliminates probably 95% of of all scientists that have been publishing for less than 10 years. Given the relative narrow scope of your books (scRNA-seq and bioinformatics/biotechnology), your cutoff likely eliminates 98-99% of scientists with publications.
