Where Can I Get Whole Human Genomes?

Hi ,

i am an Bioinformatics Master Student and i want to do a little bit of Research on my own. I decided to compare the whole genomes of human beings.
But where are they available ?

Meta information would also be helpful.

Could you clarify your question which seems too broad. What do you want to compare ? They are so many things to compare.

The word "compare" is not specific enough. There are many different kinds of things one could compare between 2 or more sequences of any length. Simple samples, that are still underspecified, but at least more specific: "I wish to compare GC percentage in 5-prime UTRs to see if they differ". "I wish to look at differences in predicted coding regions of genes to see if they are predicted to modify amino acid composition". Etc...

I don't want to discourage people from obtaining, examining and trying to understand biological data "for fun", in their own time. However, your question suggests to me that you are not quite ready to take this step.

You will learn the research skills that you need during your masters course. These include knowing where to find data, how to retrieve it, good research questions that you can ask of it and the tools required to help answer those questions.

My advice: be patient and don't try to run before you can walk.

curiousity is something needed very much in science! having big goals helps you to find the right steps that make the way (a lot of learning). so why not try to resolve the question? ;-) cheers

see ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genomes/H_sapiens as far as I know(?) HuRef (C Venter's genome) is the only assembly made from one individual.
