Talk to the IUC folks, they're often looking for extra hands for making wrappers and/or modifying Galaxy.

Read and learn before you volunteer for anything.

Read about available Galaxy pipelines, learn how to use Galaxy, use Galaxy to get familiar with it. Then, for example, identify a missing tool and create an interface to it.

Paying attention to detail is important. For example, there is a Galaxy BioStars site, wouldn't be more appropriate to ask there?
