Why do I get -1 when I get softconnectivity in the WGCNA analysis

Hi I am a student doing WGCNA analysis. I am analyzing RNA-seq data following the WGCNA tutorial. After soft-thresholding power is obtained, soft connectivity is attempted. The commands in the tutorial are as follows

connectivity_dat=softConnectivity(dat,power=power)-1

I could not find why I was doing -1 here. I would be very grateful if you let me know. thank you

r rna-seq wgcna

Could you please linke the tutorial you are using or give a more complete example. I am just guessing you were trying to convert the connectivity into a distance?

I am following the tutorial with link content A enter link description here According to this tutorial, soft-thresholding obtains power and then proceeds with soft connectivity.
