Position description:
You will play a key role in advancing scientific projects around the world. If you like to be challenged by multiple diverse genomics projects this job is for you.
This role is for you if you take ownership over projects and can juggle multiple tasks. You work efficiently and produce quality results. You are self-motivated, a fast learner, and have proven capable of independent work. You will hit the ground running. Your peers think you are exceptional and you always put the team first.
You live anywhere in the world and generally choose when to put in your time (with occasional exceptions for meetings). Part-time is possible if you prefer.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with experimental biologists from biotech, pharma, universities, and research institutes on study design and to analyze large-scale datasets to reach biological conclusions
- Write and version control code and participate in internal peer review of code, methods, and reports
- Communicate research via well written reports and client meetings
- Develop web interfaces and well commented, version-controlled code
- Work collaboratively on projects with employees, contractors, and clients
- Help develop project timelines and resource requirements
- Work with experimental CROs to offer samples-to-results genomics services
- Occasional travel required (e.g. retreats, conferences, client on-sites)
- Whatever needs to be done – it’s a small company!
Requirements
- PhD in a quantitative field, preferably computational biology, computer science or biology
- Minimum of 6 years of experience doing primarily computational biology (can include time in PhD)
- Proficiency in both R and python, and experienced in the use of version control
- Strong computational fundamentals including machine learning, algorithms, and data structures
- Experience with large datasets, next-generation sequencing analysis, and high-performance or cluster computing
- Strong biological knowledge and interest; familiarity with biological data resources
- Completion of multiple research projects using functional genomics data
- Excellent written and verbal English skills
- Regular access to a reliable high-speed Internet connection
- Good publication record, including first author publications
Additional requirements for Senior Scientist
- Mastery of both R and python
- Experience in human genetics, single cell genomics, and/or deep learning
- Excellent publication record, including first author publications
- Minimum of 9 years of experience doing primarily computational biology (can include time in PhD)
Preferred
- Experience using AWS for bioinformatics (EC2, S3, SageMaker)
- Experience with RNA-seq, microarrays, whole genome sequencing, whole exome sequencing, genotyping arrays, ChIP-seq, and/or other genomics technologies
Compensation
$100,000-$130,000/year (USD) for full time, depending on qualifications, with generous perks. For those working in the United States we offer health insurance and other benefits. We offer opportunities for career advancement.
