Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Computational Biology to join Centre for Genome Bioinformatics at Saint Petersburg State University, Russia.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to population genetics research in the framework of Genome Russia Consortium, leading on research projects and facilitating the projects of colleagues. You will focus on development of analytical approaches and use existing computational methods to analyse whole genome sequencing data with the ultimate goal of understanding how and when patterns of diversity were formed and facilitate medical applications.

You will work in a team-oriented environment applying your knowledge of computational biology, statistical genetics and programming skills to create novel methods and testable scientific hypotheses. You will also be responsible for maintaining an ambitious and innovative research program pursuing new funding opportunities and contributing to existing projects.

The position requires outstanding quantitative and analytical skills. We are looking for candidates with PhD level education in computational biology/bioinformatics, applied mathematics or neighbouring disciplines.

Strong programming skills in at least one programming language such as R, Perl, Python, C, or C++, as well as experience in high-throughput scientific computing and Unix/Linux environments is required. The position requires the ability to independently take responsibility over your project, strong teamwork and communication skills, reliability, attention to details and effective time management.

We offer competitive salary (which can be discussed at the interview) and a budget for conference travel.

We are a multinational research group and our official communication language is English.
