Have you considered installing Linux subsystem for Win 10 instead? There are three linux distros available in Windows app store. You should be able to use all linux software natively on LSW.

I believe biolinux has not been updated since 2014 and would likely not be a current option.

I assume you are using DHCP to get an IP address from your ISP/your local router? Biolinux likely does not have the right drivers for the wireless included in your new laptop for both wireless and ethernet.

You should ask this on AskUbuntu, ServerFault or SuperUser, this is purely a linux install question. About the internet connection, you should check what is your adapter (something involving lspci) and download the linux driver to a usb drive - I have to say that is pretty surprising an ethernet adapter not working out of the box.

A long time ago (circa 2010? I don't remember) I installed BioLinux, and in the end I think it is better to stay with just Ubuntu. The bioinformatics packages were not updated and started to get outdated. Besides, nowadays Ubuntu has a sizeable amount of bioinformatics tools in its repositories, and there is conda, which wasn't around back then - so the need to a bioinformatics-geared distro is much smaller these days. Finally, it seems BioLinux development has stopped. There is a brand-new (one-day old) long-term Ubuntu release, which could solve your ethernet adapter and grub / uefi problems.
