two genes within same genomic region

Hello,

Gene 1:

NM_001003692 ZMAT5

chr22:30,126,945-30,163,000(GRCh37/hg19)

Gene 2:

NM_182527 CABP7

chr22:30,116,073-30,127,828(GRCh37/hg19)

For these two genes, we see that, CABP7 is overlapping with ZMAT5, is this unusual? Thank you for any hint!

That happens quite frequently so it's not too odd.

These two genes are on different strands of the chromosome. This is quite usual and nothing to worry about.

Great. Thanks a lot!! What if a CpG site (DNA methylation) can map to two genes? I have seen this issue as well.

A CpG site will affect transcription from both the sense and anti-sense strands.

Just to clarify, too: 2 different genes can be transcribed at the same position on both the sense and anti-sense strands, and also one can have overlapping genes on the same strand that have different TSS and/or promoters.
