Research Database Engineer

Vacancy Ref: 018930

Salary: Grade 6, £28,098 - £31,604 per annum

We are seeking to appoint a research database engineer to join our expanding bioinformatics team at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) (http://www.cvr.ac.uk/).

You will be involved in the development of a database resource for the research outputs from the HCV Research UK clinical network (http://www.hcvresearchuk.org/).

One key aspect of the resource will be the ability to link extensive viral and host genetic data to clinical outcomes and associated metadata, which will be unique in its scale for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

The postholder will have a key role in the specification, design and construction of the database resource and will have a high level of overall responsibility for the project.

The post would particularly suit an individual looking to acquire experience in software design, to gain skills with a wide range of software technologies and to gain experience in software project management in an academic research environment. Candidates with a background in computer science, software engineering or bioinformatics are encouraged to apply.

The post is full time (35 hours per week) and has funding up to 31 October 2019.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof John McLauchlan, Director of the HCV Research UK Biorepository and co-chair of HCV Research UK (e-mail: john.mclauchlan@glasgow.ac.uk).
