Responsibilities

The successful candidate for the position of Bioinformatics Scientist will join an interdisciplinary team of computational biologists, bioinformatics analysts, laboratory scientists and management executives who are working together to develop new methodologies to rapidly and accurately identify new genotypic and phenotypic factors that may lead to disease, and to provide best-in-class tech-enabled services for pharmaceutical and other healthcare & life sciences customers so that those customers may develop better options for disease diagnosis and/or treatment.

The Bioinformatics Scientist will focus on the development and use of computational tools to perform data analysis for Systems Imagination's (SII) customer projects. Projects will include computational and statistical analyses of sequencing studies, providing domain expertise and collaborative contribution for existing customers and in meetings and work leading to presentations for existing and new customers for SII. Expertise in statistical methods development and analysis of sequence data, and the integration of genetic variation and gene expression data into pathway network analysis are preferred skills. Additionally, the successful individual will be responsible for organizing, manipulating, and integrating various datasets, and in preparing formal documentation and presentations for customers.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in the Life Sciences, computer science, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics, or other quantitative discipline required
  • 5+ years experience with computational analysis of biological datasets, publications list preferred
  • Relevant experience or formal training in computational biology, machine learning,and statistics is a plus
  • Must have demonstrated competency with several programing languages including: Perl, Python, Java, Matlab, R, C, C++, Unix
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequence data analysis tools
  • Good understanding and practical experience in data management tools and applications
  • Demonstrated capability as highly organized, a creative problem-solver, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as within cross-functional teams
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing and high-demand environments
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) as demonstrated by publications and presentations
