hi,

I should locate where in viruses genomes encode for RNA dependent RNA polymerase. in NCBI viral genomes there are more than 1500 genomes. how can I find where in these genomes are genes which code RNA dependent RNA polymerase. first I thought to download 1500 GTF and grep the position of these genes but I thought manually it take hours to download.

A way to extract a list of these gene ids belong to each viral family and their position in the genome

help me please to figure out

thank you

Have you tried the NCBI Gene database with your search terms?

Actually I need the exact position of these genes in for example single stranded RNA virus families

The site returns the position in the 'Location' field. Here's a typical entry:

Name/Gene ID Description **Location**
ID: 911824 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase [Zaire ebolavirus] **NC_002549.1 (11501..18282)**
