Let's assume that you need to choose the topic for your Phd, master thesis, publication etc. I would like to know, what bioinformatics issues of current interest we have for now? I mean in which fields we can apply it successfully and how i can choose the bio topic where i can definitely apply my programming skills. I know that there are such a huge topics like multiple alignment, protein folding/binding, docking, phenotyping etc. which allows us to apply computational approach to solve it.

I really wonder if we have more subtle and non-mainstream topics in which bioinformatics is getting more useful.
