Founded in 1944, MRIGlobal is an independent, not-for-profit organization that performs contract research and other services for clients in business, industry and government.

We currently have an opening for an Associate Scientist in Bioinformatics & Microbial Genomics, available immediately in Rockville, Maryland. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers actively conducting genomics-based research in infectious disease diagnostics, biosurveillance, microbiology, virology, and microbial forensics for a variety of government and industrial clients. Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors: Successful candidates will have a passion for applied Research & Development. Candidates will be expected to develop technically sound solutions for real-world problems and provide ongoing support to existing programs at MRIGlobal. Examples of activities may include:

  • testing and evaluation of bioinformatics methods (e.g. scripts, software, pipeliens);
  • validation and routine execution of
  • bioinformatics pipelines for operational use; installing, testing, evaluating, and troubleshooting open-source software tools;
  • scripting in bash, perl, python, R, mysql, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A recent M.S degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or related studies; B.S. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or related studies with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with analyzing and reporting on next generation sequencing data;
  • Core competencies in Linux, Perl, Python, R, MySql, etc.; Experience with CLC bio a plus.

Applicant MUST be a U.S. Citizen and be eligible to obtain a USG Department of Defense Security Clearance.
