Machine learning for finding patterns

Hello Everyone,

I am type of starter in Machine learning practical stuffs. I need a help on one of the Bioinformatics problem trying to solve using Machine Learning . My goal to accomplish is quite simple .

1. I have a few sequences as a training sets and I want to train my model based on these sequences.

2. Using these sequences (Training sets), I wanted to search in another data-sets which is a genome here and trying to found similar patterns across data-sets .

I just wanted to know about some basic sort of tutorials for this and which ML algorithm will be best suited for such cases? And you may suggest some good papers as well.
