Splice variant query (alternative splicing) - help hugely appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I am new to bioinformatics and would really appreciate help with a query that I have: I am reviewing a sequence on 'VectorBase' and it tells me that the sequence has "1 transcript (splice variant)" - what is this referring to? Is it important to take into consideration when analysing a sequence (it is for a postgraduate report). I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you in advance.

Check out the wikipedia article on Alternative Splicing, it should give you all the details you need! There's also a good video on Kahn Academy about Post-Transcriptional Regulation that might be useful
