How to download a large file from a computer which is behind squid proxy?
Hi,
I am unable to download a few files which are 958 and 560 mb of size respectively.
The error says:
The request or reply is too large.
If you are making a POST or PUT request, then the item you are trying to upload is too large.
If you are making a GET request, then the item you are trying to download is too large.
The reason is perhaps, I am exceeding the maximum download size, my parent proxy server is configured with. I tried resolving it using http://www.ehow.com/how_6510602_bypass-squid-proxy.html but did not change anything.
Could anyone please point me to an effective way to download these files. Thank you so much.

The files I was trying to download were I-Tasser library files for modelling a small protein database.
One might encounter the same error while downloading the protein databases from NCBI (Stand-alone Blast) or any database for that matter. Since all the computers in my location are behind a firewall, i thought i could seek some help from Biostars.

That doesn't make it really a bioinformatics question, but have you tried ftp, wget -c or curl? Your problem seems to be either with your local internet connection/squid configuration, and the best thing to do is to ask a local technician. If you are working in a research environment that is working with genomics data, then I would even say your local squid is misconfigured. If it's with the remote side which is less likely, your best bet is to contact the other side. In any case there is nothing we could do.
