In addition, you should look over the research-oriented questions posted here and at SeqAnswers to gauge where the fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are going and what the main activities are. For example, you'll see a lot of help is needed with the latest high-throughput sequence data. Gain experience with one of these "top" areas and marry that to a key disease such as cancer, type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Then, you'll find many people who will want to talk to you about employment.

I would suggest you to talk to postdocs and other researchers in the research field you are interested in.

Look for places where you think some good/interesting research is going on which you are interested in.

Try to see if there are open positions and apply. You need to read lots of research papers and try to be updated with the latest technologies and trends in your field of interest.
