Dear ALL!

Does anybody know about the existence of a gi-number nucleotide database for bacteria?

I need to find a feature to distinguish genes within NCBI-fft - files. NC-number and gi-number are the same for all the genes inside one fft-file. It is some special gi-number. The fft-file corresponds to the faa-file with GIs and IDs. The second protein-file seems to be a transcription of the first nucleotide file (some paper). - I've read some article about it. It's probably possible to take the protein GI or ID and transfer it to the initial nucleotide sequence, the order of entries is conserved in both files. To give a gene just a count-result as a name seems to be too simple. To take only coordinate range with dash inside as a numerical characteristics for any NCBI-gene probably is a bad idea.

Would you be so kind to give me some better ones?

Thank you very much indeed! Sincerely yours, Natasha
