A question about upregulated and downregulated genes in microarray
My teacher firmly believes that there is a gene (or a group of genes) up-regulated in the case of considering all the genes from microarray, accordingly, there must be another gene (or a group of genes) which is down-regulated. I find that this view is wrong after analysis by designing algorithms. Do you agree with my teacher's view? if not, please explain or give an example. Thank you very much.

Just because one gene is upregulated doesn't mean another has to be down regulated. It's not a 0 sum game.
