How to start off building a Cytoscape plugin

I am in the field of bioinformatics and I have some background in programing languages. I use Cytoscape quite often and I have some ideas about making a new cytoscape plugin which I believe will be helpful for many people using Cytoscape. I was wondering where should I start off coding for the plugin ? Any head start regarding this will be greatly appreciated.
