Use Of Terms In Genome-Wide Analysis: Phenotype / Functionality / Fitness

I would like to open a discussion on examples of genome-wide data generation that could be classified into:

  • Phenotype measures
  • Functionality measures or a proxy for them
  • Fitness / changes in fitness

For example:

  • Experiment X is a measure for differential phenotypes
  • Experiment Y is a proxy for differences in functionality
  • Experiment Z is a measure of differences in fitness

What experiments would people consider are good examples for each one?

Albert, can you rephrase this more as a proper question?

Any reason that fitness, which includes fecundity, fertility, viability, is distinct from phenotype? These three fitness outcomes, while closer to invoking selection than phenotypes in general, are still measurable traits.

@Casey Bergman, thanks for the comment, I've now written it down as a question "What experiments would people consider are good examples for each one?"

Thank you! That helps. This could be quite a good forum if replies are given for human, animal, Drosophila and plant studies. The ability to perform GWAS in non-human species should not be overlooked.
