I’m a Bioinformatics Engineer at the Center for Computational Biology & Bioinformatics (CCBB) at UC San Diego, where I support world-class research by building scalable, reproducible computational infrastructure and collaborating closely with faculty and investigators.

I design and deploy Nextflow-based bioinformatics pipelines across cloud (AWS Batch) and HPC environments (SDSC Expanse), with a focus on reproducibility, performance, and usability. I also help manage CCBB’s AWS ecosystem, working on cost optimization, data security, and resource efficiency, and maintain our internal compute server to ensure reliable day-to-day use for colleagues.

My collaborative work spans bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, metagenomics (16S and WGS), spatial proteomics (Imaging Mass Cytometry), long-read sequencing (PacBio HiFi), Hi-C and epigenomic data integration, RNA editing analysis, and network-based systems biology. These projects support research efforts in areas such as cancer biology, addiction and substance use disorder, neurobiology of dependence and withdrawal, placental biology, HIV chromatin biology, and gene therapy vector characterization.

Prior to CCBB, I worked in industry developing fully automated, production-grade bioinformatics pipelines for genome-editing verification in regulated environments, supporting rapid, client-facing delivery. This work included on- and off-target analysis, structural variant and integration detection, RNA-seq analysis, and the integration of short- and long-read sequencing data. I collaborated closely with software and scientific teams to improve code quality, logging, documentation, version control practices, and overall stability and reproducibility across the platform.

I place a strong emphasis on high-quality documentation and knowledge sharing, creating clear, practical resources that support reproducible research and enable others to confidently use shared pipelines and infrastructure.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me exploring national parks, gardening, trying a new board game, keeping up with the latest sci-fi, or enjoying a great local craft beer with my wife. I’m naturally curious, love learning, and am always looking for new ways to streamline my digital life.
