Dr. Kevin Gunderson is co-founder and CTO of Encodia, Inc. He oversees R&D, where he is driving overall corporate formation and strategy, technical innovation and IP, and recruitment of high-performance teams. Kevin has over 20 years of experience in developing scalable assays. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers encompassing a broad variety of scientific disciplines, and holds patents and patents pending for over 30 inventions in these areas. Prior to Encodia, Kevin led the Advanced Research Group at Illumina for almost 18 years and helped create Illumina’s first $1B dollar product line based on the Infinium assay that enabled massively-parallel genomics. His team championed Next-Gen Sequencing (NGS), and developed a broad range of NGS technologies. These efforts helped Illumina grow from a fledgling start-up with 7 people to a company of over 5000 people and the world’s leading provider of Genomics and NGS instruments and assays. Prior to Illumina, Kevin was a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at Affymetrix, developing novel DNA array assays. Kevin holds a Ph.D. in biophysics and M.S. in physics from Stanford University, and a B.A. in math/physics from St. Olaf College. Kevin also sits on BOD of StemoniX, Inc., a biotech company developing scalable cell-based technologies for drug discovery and development.
