Transmitting Science is offering the live online course “Structural Phylogenetics: putting protein structure into phylogenetic inference”.

This course introduces the principles and applications of structural phylogenetics, focusing on how protein structure can inform phylogenetic inference. As protein structure is typically more conserved than sequence, this approach support phylogenetic problems where amino acid sequence similarity is highly decayed due to long time periods or rapid evolution (e.g. viruses). In such situations, alignment and accurate phylogenetic inference become very difficult. Through live online sessions, you’ll explore how structural data complements sequence‑based approaches. The programme combines conceptual explanations with guided practical exercises, giving you hands‑on experience with structural datasets.
