News: Population Genomics workshop - online, 21–25 September

We are pleased to announce the upcoming online course Population Genomics Using Ancient DNA Data, taking place from 21–25 September.

This five-day course will introduce participants to the generation, processing, authentication, and population genomic analysis of ancient DNA data, combining lectures with hands-on computational exercises based on real research questions.

The course will cover:

- Processing and authentication of ancient DNA data, including contamination and postmortem DNA damage
- Pseudo-haploid variant calling from low-coverage aDNA data
- Population structure using PCA and MDS
- Coalescent theory and demographic inference
- Historical population dynamics, bottlenecks, and population expansions
- D and F statistics for studying population affinity and gene flow
- Relatedness and kinship analysis
- Population genetics simulations and hypothesis testing
- Detecting signals of natural selection using ancient DNA data

The course is aimed at graduate students and researchers in genetics, genomics, ecology, evolutionary biology, and anthropology interested in using aDNA data for population genetic inference. Although examples will primarily focus on the human genome, the methods and approaches discussed are broadly applicable to other organisms for which ancient DNA data are available.
