We're glad to share that Pavel Pevzner (UC San Diego) will give a keynote at CIBB 2026, the 21st International Conference on Computational Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, held at Sapienza University of Rome on September 2-4, 2026.

If you've learned bioinformatics from a textbook or an online course, there's a good chance Pevzner wrote it, his books and Coursera specializations are still where many people in this community start.

His talk at CIBB steps back from algorithms to ask a broader question: "Will AI Replace Professors?" There's something appropriate about him tackling this question: someone who has shaped how bioinformatics is taught, now asking where that teaching is headed in the age of AI. Whatever your own answer, it should be a good conversation to have in person.

He joins three other invited speakers: Per Kragh Andersen (University of Copenhagen), Marianna Rapsomaniki (CHUV Lausanne), and Nicola Segata (University of Trento).

Registration is open (with reduced rates for students and PhD candidates), and the conference is preceded on September 1 by three free satellite events.
