Working with SNP, RAD-seq, whole-genome, low-coverage, or ancient DNA datasets? Looking to better understand population structure, admixture, demographic history, and gene flow? Our 5-day live online course provides practical training in modern population genomics, covering both the underlying theory and hands-on analysis using widely adopted software and real genomic datasets.
Topics include: Variant data and low-coverage sequencing analysis with ANGSD; Population structure using PCA, MDS, t-SNE, and UMAP; Ancestry inference with ADMIXTURE, STRUCTURE, and NGSadmix; Fine-scale population structure using ChromoPainter and fineSTRUCTURE; FST, F2, F3, F4, and D-statistics (ABBA-BABA); Detecting admixture, introgression, and gene flow; Selection scans and population differentiation; Interpreting demographic history and evolutionary relationships.
The course combines lectures with practical coding sessions, allowing participants to work through complete analytical workflows while discussing the assumptions, strengths, and limitations of each method.
Who is it for? Population geneticists, Evolutionary biologists, Bioinformaticians, Ancient DNA researchers, Conservation geneticists, Researchers working with genomic datasets from any organism.
Prerequisites A basic understanding of genetics and molecular biology is recommended. Some familiarity with R, Python, or the Linux command line is helpful but not essential, as key concepts and workflows are introduced during the course.
