Hello community,
I am weighing a career decision right after my Master's graduation. I am choosing between continuing my search for a junior industry position or accepting an immediate offer for a funded, independent project at a public scientific institute (Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens). The project involves secondary data analysis of public multi-omics cohorts. I already have a strong foundational stack (Python, R, HPC, Nextflow certification, Docker).
For those who transitioned from public research institutes to biotech/pharma: How heavily does industry value independent project ownership at an academic institute compared to starting at the very bottom tier of a corporate pipeline?
