Forum: Looking for opinions on the MSc Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program at the University of Göttingen

Greetings!

I recently received admission for the MSc computational biology & bioinformatics program at the university of Göttingen.

As this particular program was newly introduced, I would like to know if there are any alumni available here who can tell about the reputation and academic rigour of the program.

I am confused whether I should accept the admission invitation because on one hand Göttingen is a great uni but on the other hand, this specific program is only two years old.

Any insights/suggestions appreciated!

Congrats on getting admitted to the program. You have crossed the main hurdle. If you say that the program is only two year old then there may be a small number of students who have completed the program (perhaps only one batch). So chances of one (or more) of them responding here are small.

Computational biology and bioinformatics programs have been around for 10+ years at this point so this particular program may not be that different from other universities. If you have more than one option to consider then you will have a choice to make. Otherwise what you make of the training you get at Gottingen will depend on you to a large extent. Pedigree will only help to some extent. Good luck!
