Link updated, thanks for pointing it out!
Hi folks! I have long been looking for a suitable chat server (slack, mattermost or whatever) for getting quick advice and/or help with bioinformatics problems.
Biostars is a fantastic resource obviously, but I feel sometimes you just need to reach out to get some quicker replies, or be able to chat about something in real time, or just hanging out with peers, in particular when getting into a new subfield or technique.
I was thus delighted to stumble upon a new Discord server just a few days after it was created, by Luca Visentin (Saw it on the genomic.social mastodon).
- You can find Luca's announcement on Dec 21 about it on Mastodon here: https://genomic.social/@MrHedmad/109636306775247324
- And, a direct invitation link to the server here: https://discord.com/invite/arPBahn8N6
I understand if chats are not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm hoping it can grow into a thriving complement to Biostars.
Edit 7 Jan, 2023, 18:49 CET: Updated invite link to permanent one as suggested by Luca

Thanks for making a post here in Biostars! It never occurred to me to make one.
I just wanted to point out that the permanent link to join is https://discord.com/invite/arPBahn8N6 as the one from Samuel will timeout soon.
It's still an early community but we welcome anyone that comes in with suggestions on how to make it great. Thanks for checking it out!

Might be worth pointing people to the Bioinformatics Discord, since this one shut down... See https://discord.gg/3uxbPns (via https://www.reddit.com/r/bioinformatics/comments/1gd2c3h/comment/ltz2qxf/).
