I think it could be useful to have a brief section in the FAQ describing the different Post Types available on Biostar:
- Question
- Tutorial
- Tip
- Blog
- Forum
- News
- Review
- Tool
- Video
- Job
- Poll
- Ad
Some of these types are less obvious than others and may benefit from a short description and a link to a typical of the type. For example, what difference is there between a Tip and a Tutorial? Is a Forum post intended to discuss about Biostar-related subjects, to have more of an open forum-like discussion, or both? What should the Blog type be used for?
It should raise awareness about the different Post Types available and how to use them best.
The diversity of types is also, on purpose, not represented on the tabs available at the top of the Biostar page. Many types are regrouped under a single name (for example, Tutorial/Video/Tool/Tip under How To). However, the tabs seem to wrap nicely when reducing my browser window width. I am thus wondering if there should not be more of these tabs to make searching specific post types easier.
Finally, the 'Planet' type is not available when posting but there is a tab and section for it. Should it be removed or renamed?
I agree, and one thing I've noticed which might be of use is a conference/workshop announcement section. I went to post one last week and agonised over what kind of post to tag it.
