We are looking for a dynamic Bioinformatician to develop bioinformatics pipelines to identify genetic causes, risks and biomarkers in extensive, ethnically-diverse, genetic and phenotypic clinical datasets. These data are being collected through the MRC International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Disease (ICGNMD) project, driving gene discovery and enhancing genomic diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries. This is a rare opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that will have a real effect on patients world-wide.
Joining our world-class international teams of clinicians, scientists and bioinformaticians, you will be able to demonstrate evidence of completing bioinformatics projects within a research environment (evidenced by publications and/or experience in a previous role) and preferably have a strong background in human disease biology. Most importantly, you should show intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm to apply a broad range bioinformatics tools to understanding the genetics of mitochondrial and neuromuscular diseases.
The job will involve bioinformatic support for genomic, epigenetic, proteomic and transcriptomic integrative analyses, establishing bioinformatic pipelines and maintaining clinical and variant databases. You will work collaboratively with Principal Investigators and research groups in the internationally-renowned Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research and the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre that together comprise the Newcastle component of the ICGNMD. You will also work in close collaboration with the lead Bioinformatician, Dr Jana Vandrovcova, based at University College London.
