Are there any large, already-normalized compendia of human gene expression data available for download? I know I could obtain data from GEO or ArrayExpress, but I'd like to try something out without having to deal with choosing which experiments to include and normalization.

This 2011 NAR article by McCall et al describes a "barcode" method for looking at normalized expression across tissue types in human. It renders expression down to a binary yes/no for each tissue type. A normalized-and-processed data set can be downloaded from the authors' site (check the "transcriptomes" section), which I've found it really useful for initial exploratory analyses.
Additionally, the BioGPS downloads page has some data sets available that might be of interest to you.
