Job Description & Responsibilities

The company is looking for an experienced and highly motivated bioinformatics, or biologist professional to lead a specialist Data and Applications COE. In this role the chosen individual will be responsible for:

• Assisting clients with their data architecture decisions to support their downstream data analytics use cases, including AI
• Ensuring that the catalog of biomedical applications made available by Databiology, as curated applications, in Databiology Hub are up-to-date, quality-assured, and ready to use
• Managing a virtual and globally distributed team of domain SME’s, assigning work and ensuring on-time deliverables relative to agreed client and company priorities
• Providing thought leadership, as a domain expert, both internally and externally to ensure customers can get the very best out of their investments in Databiology software, and that, as a company, we further innovate to provide a continued best-in-class product and customer experience.
• The chosen candidate will also act as a company spokesperson on scientific topics.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Capabilities

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, biophysics, computer science, or related discipline, with >5 years experience gained in a large scale commercial or academic environment
• Deep knowledge of biology and genomic concepts, data management and analysis methods, and their representation in software systems and expertise in the associated technologies: genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics, image analysis, clinical informatics
• Expertise in Python, Bash, Linux, Git, Docker, bioinformatic pipelines – a computer science background would be an advantage

• Knowledge of the trends and direction of travel in Biomedical data analytics and the associated best practices

  • FAIR and science reproducibility
  • Use, modeling, and implementation of ontologies (DOID, HPO, NCBITAXON, SNOMED, FHIR, OMOP)
  • Open source tools and applications

• Mainstream community initiatives

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Candidates should be capable of presenting technical information to non-experts in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience with teaching or training on scientific topics
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong can-do /pro-active track record of achievements and results delivered and by reference to publications
