Tool: PathogenAR - Structural Biology in Augmented Reality

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biosciences Branch (BCBB) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is pleased to announce the release of PathogenAR, a mobile application developed to tell stories about pathogens and pathogenic disease in augmented reality (AR). The first module looks at the creation of a universal vaccine for influenza and features 3D models of the Influenza virion, Hemagglutinin, and antigenic nanoparticles.

PathogenAR provides a novel means to interact with models derived from PDB/EMDB data. Tap your screen to place the 3D model in your living room, then interact using touch gestures. You can zoom, rotate, and walk around the model. An option also exists to use a Merge Cube device to hold the models “in your hand”.

Modules for SARS-CoV-2 and HIV anti-retroviral drugs are in development.
