Using mean between male & female recombination rates.

I am using a software which requires the use of recombination rates, but does not take into consideration sex. I have both male and female recombination maps. Because sex isn't taken into consideration, is it reasonable to say take the mean between the male and female recombination rates? Or is there alternative approach that would be more sound?

genome gene

Your question lacks details, so it is very difficult to give a good answer. Given that differences in recombination rates between the sexes is quite common, I would argue the (undisclosed) software at hand was developed with a narrow focus, probably targeting a species with small or no difference in recombination rate.
