Problem with upload data for Mega

Hi everyone

I generate a tree using IQ Tree and from that I want to generate an ancestor sequence (protein) using the Mega software. The problem is that I cant open the output of IQ Tree of any form or format on Mega. I already read about the formats supported by Mega but even when I convert my file to a format that Mega accepts, erros keep occuring.

I accept suggestions of how can I deal with this question.

Sorry Mensur if was not clear enough

I downloaded the .treefile and .contree of IQ Tree and discover that they was already in Newick format but still didn't work, even when I rename them for .nwk. Then I tried convert them to another fomarts that mega accepts, like .fas or .meg, but again, didn't work. I finally solve the problem just reinstalling Mega. About your questions, I didn't remember the error and for conversion I just used this website.

This is not very helpful. For example, what format did you try, how did you convert it, and what was the error?

IQ-TREE makes lots of different files. What you need is one that ends in .contree, which is a consensus tree in Newick format. If you don't have that file, another one that should work ends in .treefile, also in Newick format. Neither of those two files requires conversion for MEGA, but you may need to rename them so they end in .nwk.

cp something.contree something.nwk

Now you should be able to open something.nwk in MEGA without problems.
