Ensembl transcript id, mismatch between ensembl_transcript_id_version and ensembl_transcript_id

Using ensembl BioMart:

biomaRt::useMart(biomart = "ensembl",
                 host="http://www.ensembl.org",
                 dataset=paste0("hsapiens_gene_ensembl")

I tended to use the ensembl_transcript_id_version to match transcript variants to genes. However I have noticed that ensembl_transcript_id can be an entirely different number! Causing me to miss these variants in some cases.

Does anyone know why these can be different?

For now I will switch to using ensembl_transcript_id.

Example: ENST00000387377 ENST00000387377.1 are usually have identical base numbers. But sometimes these can be different.

Thanks in advance.

r biomart ensembl

Can you please give an example of where this is the case and what you mean by them being different.
