We are going to change the format of the FT (feature table) and CC (comments) sections of the UniProtKB text files. The changes of the FT section will likely affect all parsers and software will have to be adapted accordingly. The changes of the CC section are smaller, but may also require code adaptations depending on the CC annotation types that you parse.

The motivation for this change is described in the announcement for the functional annotation of different gene products in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot, where you can also find the technical details and examples under the heading Text format.

To help you test your software, we have generated files with example entries in the current and new format: ftp://ftp.expasy.org/databases/swiss-prot/test/
