I think that many of the Moderators on this website have been 'pulled' into bioinformatics based on our analytical skills that we learned in other fields, i.e., not many of us have any direct training in bioinformatics (I certainly do not). Perhaps my colleagues can speak for themselves, though.

If you recently graduated with a degree in Medicine, then you could consider a PhD with an analytical focus. As a MD PhD, you will be highly sought in the field.
