Multiple Positions Open:

Global Gene Corp are looking to recruit bioinformatics analysts/developers to work in the R&D team at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, UK.

About us:

Global Gene Corp are democratising genomics and its application to healthcare. A genomics data and insights company, GGC’s work is paving the way for delivery of precision healthcare on a global scale.

Your Role:

The candidate will join a team responsible for developing GGC’s pipelines, systems and algorithms for processing and generating insights from our continually expanding database of genomic and phenotypic data. The role will include production, development and research strands.

Your profile:

The candidate will have a bachelors or higher degree in a relevant subject (bioinformatics, computer science, genetics). Significant experience writing code in a scripted (Python, Perl, Ruby, R) and/or compiled (C, C++, Java etc) language is required, preferably with demonstrable experience working on shared codebases using modern development pragmas. The candidate must be completely comfortable working in a Unix environment, and would preferably have experience of working in the cloud (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).

Desired capabilities:

  • Experience working with human genomic data is strongly desirable, especially in the fields of genetic variation, sequencing informatics, linking genotype to phenotype, statistical and population genetics. Familiarity with modern NGS bioinformatics tools and programming libraries will be a strong advantage. The candidate should be accustomed to handling extremely large data sets and have a good knowledge of databases, storage and warehousing systems.
  • Expertise in several of the following would also be desirable: HPC/distributed computing (e.g. Spark, Hadoop); machine learning/AI; data encryption and security; database design and development; front end development; API development; workflow development (Galaxy, CWL, WDL); disease ontologies (HPO, SNOMED, ICD10).
  • Excellent communication skills are a must, as is the ability to work both as a self-starter and within a team as part of global collaborations, with the flexibility to work across different time zones when required. The candidate must be authorised to work in the UK.

Why join us?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing team with the potential to be involved in and influence cutting edge genomic science and personalised medicine. GGC’s UK office is on the Wellcome Genome Campus, lauded amongst the leading hubs for genomics research worldwide, and is also home to the Wellcome Sanger Institute (home of the Human Genome Project) and the European Bioinformatics Institute. The campus is a short distance from the historic university city of Cambridge and offers excellent sports facilities, a free shuttle bus service, on site nursery, restaurants and cafés.
