Are you passionate about solving tough challenges? How would you like to use your analytical skills to find creative solutions for consumer's everyday problems? If this sounds like fun, we would love to hire someone with your skills and abilities to join our team to work on new technology approaches to address unmet consumer needs and/or resolve technical tensions

We are looking for a scientist for technical work to join the bioinformatics team in analyzing and interpreting large-scale high-throughput datasets (e.g., metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, gene chip expression profiling, whole genome sequences, proteomics, metabonomics).

You would work directly with project biologists and statisticians in both Global BioSciences and supporting GBUs to 1) design biological experiments, 2) develop and execute data analysis strategies, and 3) interpret the data to meet specific business goals.

As part of the Global BioSciences organization you will:

  1. Employ the power of computer-based analytical techniques to explore biological data sets to enabling our R&D organization.
  2. Help develop fundamental understanding of biology related to our business interests
  3. Define mechanisms of action needed to provide consumer benefits
  4. Help identify technologies to deliver these benefits
  5. Prepare patent applications to protect intellectual property associated with novel approaches
  6. Support the credentialing of sciences with external stakeholders (e.g., thought leaders, science editors, consumers of our products).
  7. Be responsible for applying the domain expertise around microbial ecology and metabolomics together with informatics tools to analyze large-scale, complex datasets.

To be successful you should have the following experience:

Bioinformaticist/computational biologist with domain knowledge in microbial ecology and metabolomics (Ph.D. or post-doctoral). You should have extensive experience working on a large biological dataset (microbiome characterization, genome sequencing, SNPs, microarray, etc.) with bioinformatics/system biology data analysis approaches and excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, Perl, BioConductor, R/SPlus, Other Statistical tools, Pathway Studios, Java, C/C++, Shell Script ).

This position is focused upon data analysis and interpretation (rather than generating of experimental data), you will have a demonstrated passion for data mining and identification of novel insights. Demonstrated skills in applying/developing/improving machines learning and AI algorithms for large scale biological dataset is a plus.

Domain knowledge in microbial ecology and metabolomics, a solid understanding of the modern concepts and procedures of molecular/cellular biology/ microbiology. You should have demonstrated a successful track record in conducting original research in the above fields. You should also demonstrate a clear ability to convert this technical mastery to business solutions.

Ability to apply bioinformatics, machine learning, and data mining techniques to generate novel hypotheses and provide analysis that better meet the needs and expectations of our cross-sector projects. You should have the ability to go beyond accepted ideas to generate better ways to get results. Build collaborative and productive working relationships with team members and others across the company. As a “capability provider”, Global BioSciences team interacts with numerous BU customers. You will have a demonstrated history of effective collaboration in a team environment.

Grow capability by anticipating bioinformatics capability gaps to prepare for future business challenges (especially in the broad area of microbial ecology); take responsibility for modifying data analytic strategies to address these gaps. Demonstrate ability to seek and apply new knowledge personally, and to develop knowledge and capability in others.

Consistent with our function as a capability provider; you will have a proven ability to understand, appreciate and respond to customer needs.

Develop clear plans for action in analysis and interpretation of customer datasets and following through to deliver extraordinary results. You will focus attention on most important priorities, acting with a scarcity mindset.

We believe you will be an excellent fit if, you have:

A PhD in BioSciences, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology Excellent verbal, written communication and technical skills

Just so you know:
