Association between chi^2 and r^2 in linkage disequilibrium measurement

I am trying to understand where the relationship between chi^2 and the linkage disequilibrium measure r^2 comes from:
chi^2 = N*r^2
in linkage disequilibrium studies, where N is the sample size, r^2 is the linkage disequilibrium measure.
r^2 = D^2 / (p_Ap_ap_Bp_b) for two bi-allelic loci, where D is the linkage disequilibrium measure D=P_ABP_ab - P_aB*p_Ab.
Note: I finally drove the relationship, which ended up being quite straight-forward. So the question can be closed now.
