I am attempting to try and download the BLAST+ executable commands to my terminal on a macOS computer and have access to them on an academic remote computer account. I was able to do it before somehow, but then I deleted it to make room on my disk, and now I can't seem to find anything that works. Currently I have tried:
wget ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov:21/blast/executables/blast+/LATEST/ncbi-blast-2.8.1%2B-x64-macosx.tar.gz
which gets me the executables on my remote account in a directory /home/usrname/ncbi-blast-2.8.1+/bin then I try ./blastn
[for example] and it tell me it is a binary file that it can't execute.
but just looking at these results commands
uname -a
Linux adroit4 3.10.0-862.14.4.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 26 07:01:37 EDT 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
file ./blastn
./blastn: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.18, BuildID[sha1]=f9a3854b85cbf3b80331f7c2a5c981948c278c9b, stripped
I thought maybe I should be downloading the linux version. and I did that, but now ./update_blastdb.pl
aborts itself and something like ./blastdbcheck nr
says there is too many positional arguments with the nr as the offending value.
I tried downloading the .dmg for 2.8.1+ to my mac, and it seems to install on some big disk I have on my computer, and I can access it on my computer when I am not logged into the remote cluster but I have no idea how to get that back on the remote cluster.
Any help would be appreciated!
