Bioinformaticist/Computational Biologist

A full-time bioinformaticist position is available at Emory University and the Yerkes National Primate Center in the Yerkes NHP Genomics Core in the Division of Microbiology and Immunology in Atlanta.

The position will entail:

  • single-cell RNA-Seq data
  • Whole genome sequence data
  • RNA-Seq
  • 10X Genomics single-cell and phased sequence data
  • T lymphocyte and B lymphocyte repertoire sequences
  • data from other Next Generation Sequencing applications
  • Management and dissemination of datasets
  • Working with individual Core clients to turn data into publishable units.

Applicants should have a background that includes strong computer science and/or bioinformatics skills and an advanced degree in computational biology, bioinformatics or a related computer science discipline.

The position will allow for successful applicants to obtain any necessary additional computational training to complete the project.

The position will also offer the opportunity to write and publish several manuscripts from this and other projects. Job Requirements

Education

  • Minimum Master's Degree in bioinformatics or computational biology, or computer science OR
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) Degree in bioinformatics or computational biology

Skills

  • Demonstrable experience writing code to solve biological problems
  • R/Bioconductor proficiency highly preferred
  • Experience working with RNA-Seq is a significant strength
  • Programming experience in C/C++, Python, Java or PERL is a significant plus
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
  • Motivation to turn data into manuscripts.
