piRNA or piwi-RNA database difference between piRBase and piRnaBank

Hi All,

I hope to know the difference between piRBase and piRnaBank to be piwi-RNA database.

piRBase:

http://www.regulatoryrna.org/database/piRNA/download.html

piRnaBank:

http://pirnabank.ibab.ac.in/request.html

RNAcentral

https://www.rnacentral.org/

Personally I think piRBase is better than piRnaBank.

Thanks.

pirbase pirnabank

Have you looked at the sites and browsed the content/FAQ's? I am not sure we can provide you with any additional information beyond what the sites show on their respective pages.

piRBase is manually curated with a recent/current data release (Aug 2018). It is not clear when piRnaBank was last updated but considering the original publication is from 2008 (and the look of the current site) it has probably not received an update in recent past.

I would recommend checking RNACentral which should be a reasonably current resource for all things RNA. Here is a representative search for piRNA.

What filter criteria did you use to get that number? You should mention that in your post. I see 209,000+ total sequences (32,000+ human) when searching RNAcentral with term piRNA (as of Oct 2018).
