The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease and International Health, University of Virginia seeks candidates for the position of Bioinformatics Analyst. The position will develop techniques and approaches to applications in mobile genetic elements within bacterial pathogens.

This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in computational biology, microbial genetics, bioinformatics, computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with WES/WGS variant analysis interpretation. Experience with Illumina, PacBio and Nanopore whole genome sequencing technology. Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Perl, R; And proficient in Unix/Linux OS and shell scripting. Familiarity and use of SQL. Use of R or equivalent analytics software
  • Hands-on experience working with isolate based genomic data and exposure to building genomic and bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Minimum of three years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
